The Inter Coach has come under fire for the Nerazzurri’s decline, as they have dropped from the top of the table to fifth place in recent months and risk missing out on Champions League qualification.

Reports today suggested that Mancio could be on his way to Arsenal or Zenit at the season’s end, but Zanetti underlined the club’s confidence in the tactician.

“Moratti wants to stay together with Thohir to strengthen this team,” Zanetti said to Tiki Taka.

“We were all angry after the defeat to Torino, as were all the fans.

“Third place? We must always believe, even if at this point it becomes very complicated. Before we were much more solid, then we started to commit errors.

“But we were always realists: we were happy with being in first place, but the objective was to return to being protagonists.

“We knew that difficult moments would arrive, but we didn’t imagine it’d be like this. Our confidence in Mancini is total.

“Totti on the bench in the Derby? Francesco wanted to play so much, but in those situations you respect the decisions of the Coach and I think he was happy for the win.

“Higuain? I’m sorry because Gonzalo is a great champion, we’re not used to seeing him like that.

“There was bitterness about a negative result and for an objective that’s at risk of being further away, given that Juventus had won.”

Zanetti also took the time to pay tribute to Cesare Maldini, who passed away on the weekend and has his funeral today.

“He was a great person, loved by everyone,” said Zanetti.

“I have great respect for the Maldini family and for what Cesare did on a global level for the city of Milan.

“I have a great friendship with Paolo, I admire him so much, and when I arrived in Italy every time we faced each other there was always loyalty.”
