Venezia coach Paolo Zanetti admits he’s angry not at the defeat to Milan, but the way it happened. ‘We can’t afford to keep making the same mistakes.’

It was the worst possible start for the Lagunari, going behind after 121 seconds to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic tap-in, then Theo Hernandez scored from a tricky angle before converting a penalty.

“We came up against a team that can score three or four goals past any opponent, but what irritates me is conceding after two minutes and basically starting the game with this handicap,” Zanetti told Sky Sport Italia.

“Unfortunately, this is a symptom of a mentality we haven’t yet achieved, but we cannot afford to keep making the same mistakes. We are in Serie A and need to be perfect in these matches. I am not angry at the defeat, but the fact we repeat the same errors over and over again.

“It’s possible we struggle to create unity because it is a squad with so many different languages, cultures and backgrounds, many of them in their first Serie A season. It’s up to me to find a way through.”

There were also penalty appeals from Venezia for an Alessandro Florenzi shirt tug on Thomas Henry, while they felt the red card was harsh on the spot-kick for intentional handball on the line.
