Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has claimed that he will continue to support Carlo Tavecchio for the FIGC presidency.

The leader of the Italian amateur game was seen as the overwhelming favourite to succeed Giancarlo Abete as head of the Federation.

However, after a racist comment at the weekend, is candidacy has been thrown into doubt, with several clubs condemning Tavecchio.

The Rosanero chief though, has insisted that he will keep on backing the 71-year-old for the job.

“I have known Tavecchio for 30 years and he is not a racist,” Zamparini told AdnKronos.

“It is disgusting how people are stoned to death for nothing.

“We will definitely continue to support Tavecchio for the presidency.”

FIFA have written to the Italian Football Federation to investigate Tavecchio’s remarks, a situation Zamp finds ridiculous.

“It’s a shame that FIFA have to get involved. We should be investigated them, not Tavecchio.”
