“Despite sacking him, I was always fond of him,” Zamparini told La Repubblica.
“I recalled him because he has a 99 per cent chance of saving us. When I sacked him, in the last eight games he had six losses, a win and a draw.

“We were very lucky to win against Chievo, so I made a decision based on mathematics. I’m an entrepreneur, and I make decisions based on maths.
“Bologna at the weekend? It’s a crucial match. [Roberto] Donadoni took over a defeated squad and reconstructed them with the same players. That’s what I hope Iachini can do.”
The patron could not, however, resist a small dig at the tactician over his failure to field striker Norbert Balogh.
“I spent €5m for Balogh, I can’t understand why he doesn’t play. Why couldn’t Iachini have put him in on Sunday [against Roma] when we were losing 4-0?
“He was a starter for a year-and-a-half in the Hungarian League, and he’ll probably go to the European Championships.
“I’m not a Coach and I don’t want to be one, but I know football well and I talk calmly with the Coach.”
Zamparini met with Milan President Silvio Berlusconi this week, but insists Franco Vazquez was not on the agenda.
“We talked about work. Football and transferring players is down to [Adriano] Galliani. I don’t know where Vazquez will go, there are only rumours.”
