Maurizio Zamparini admits he is “feeling dejected” as the days go by without an investor buying Palermo.

Speaking to Radio Rai on Monday, in the wake of Palermo’s 2-1 defeat to Milan that left the side four points adrift of Serie A safety, Zamparini reiterated his desire to “leave the club behind”.

“I’m not angry, I’m just feeling dejected,” he lamented.

“We played better than Milan, I didn’t see a 20-point difference. De Zerbi’s a new Coach and doesn’t know the division yet. I’m sad for the defeat, but I saw a good Palermo.

“Sure, I thought last year that we’d hit bottom, but we’re getting close to it this year.

“A Chinese takeover? I’ve held talks with Chinese consortiums, I’ve wanted to sell Palermo for two years because I’m 75.

“I really want to leave the club behind, but I want to work until I find someone who wants to take it on.

“We’ve seen much more important families than mine sell clubs, we’ve seen how so many foreigners have taken ownership of some Premier League clubs.

“I won’t sell up to find money for my sake but Palermo’s. I want to increase the club’s capital and then move on.

“The foreign groups that invest in football have seen their images boosted. Who was Abramovich before Chelsea?

“De Zerbi? I’m a fan of his. He’s paying for his lack of inexperience, but after the break we’ll be competitive.”
