Mario Yepes can't help but feel regret at his two great chances to score for Milan and explains why he “had to back off Aaron Lennon.”

The Colombian defender had a strong game and the Rossoneri's best opportunities, but Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes performed two stunning saves.

“Gomes did really well on my two headers and we ran into an excellent goalkeeper having a great night,” he said of the 1-0 home defeat.

“If we had scored in either of those occasions, then the whole game would've changed.

“If we had scored in either of those occasions, then the whole game would've changed.

“We got the wrong approach in the first half and did better in the second, even if we conceded the goal. It's tough ahead of the second leg, but now we must work on that challenge.”

The Spurs goal was a classic counter-attack that saw Lennon skip over the Yepes challenge to set up Peter Crouch.

“When Lennon came towards me, I had to back off, as I thought that if I went towards him straight away then the referee would send me off,” he revealed.

“There was a lot of tension at the final whistle, so we tried to calm everyone down. These things can happen.”
