New Barcelona coach Xavi warns Juventus and Manchester United that Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension is a priority for the La Liga giants.

Dembele sees his contract expire at the end of the season, but his agent hasn’t yet reached an agreement with the Catalans.

According to the latest reports in Spain, Dembele is unwilling to shake hands on a new deal with the club and Manchester United are in pole position to secure his services in the summer.

However, Juventus have also been linked with securing the Frenchman’s services, but Xavi is already pushing for his renewal.

“For me, Dembele can be the best in the world in his position by working,” the former midfielder said at his unveiling press conference at the Nou Camp, as quoted by Marca.

“I have no doubts that he can make a difference at Barcelona and be a world star. We have to help him. His renewal is a priority, of course.”

Dembele joined Barcelona for a club-record €135m fee in 2017.

He has struggled to justify his price tag having scored 30 goals and delivered 21 assists in 119 appearances across all competitions.

Last week, the French winger made his season debut against Dynamo Kyiv but played just 25 minutes and suffered a new injury that will keep him out of action indefinitely.

  1. I’d only take him if he was on a pay as you play contract. Even if he did agree i wouldn’t want him. Give me a defensive midfielder

  2. please renew his contract barca. that is great news . i would like juve to spend some money on the midfield.
