Juventus target Axel Witsel has slammed the “colossal stupidity” of an ex-Zenit St Petersburg player’s remarks and insists he “only thinks” about the Russians.

Yuri Zeludkov claimed on Wednesday that Witsel “is playing really badly out of spite” in a bid to resurrect his proposed move to Juve which broke down on transfer-deadline day last month, but the midfielder was quick to distance himself from such controversy.

Yuri Zeludkov claimed on Wednesday that Witsel “is playing really badly out of spite” in a bid to resurrect his proposed move to Juve which broke down on transfer-deadline day last month, but the midfielder was quick to distance himself from such controversy.

“Someone said that I was playing badly because I was thinking about Juve, but are there really people who think about these types of things?” he told Le Championnat.

“It’s colossal stupidity and that’s it. Lately there’s been a lot of talk about my failure to join Juventus, also out of turn I’d say.

“Even someone said I was the best at organising a trip to Turin. I want to reassure everyone that it’s not the case. When I go on the pitch, I only think about Zenit.”
