La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper highlights that the title race in Serie A is the ‘craziest’ in Europe and the comparison with the other top European leagues justifies the paper’s analysis.

The Scudetto race is wide open, with Milan, Inter and Napoli among the contenders to win the Tricolore.

Luciano Spalletti’s men will jump to the top of the table on even points with Milan if they beat Cagliari away today. They have many players out of action due to injuries, but confidence is high after their 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Thursday.

As things stand, Napoli are one point behind Inter (53 to 54) with 25 games each, but the Partenopei could jump to the top of the table with a two-point lead over the Nerazzurri who have a game in hand. If Simone Inzaghi’s men win against Bologna (the game has yet to be rescheduled), they’d have an advantage of just one point on their direct rivals.

There isn’t any other league in Europe where the race for the title is this open.

Despite a 3-2 home loss against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, Manchester City have a six-point lead over Liverpool, although the Reds have a game in hand. Chelsea sit third, 13 points behind Pep’s men and with a game in hand.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are enjoying a six-point lead over second-placed Betis and the title race in Spain is also virtually reduced to two teams as Betis sit third, 11 points behind the Merengues.

Six points distance Borussia Dortmund from Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in Germany, while Gigio Donnarumma and Marco Verratti’s PSG have 59 points in 25 Ligue 1 games, seven more than second-placed Olympique de Marseille.

  1. Nothing like it anywhere else.

People have been brain washed into thinking the epl is competitive, but how often do we not see runaway winners/runners-up with enormous points and goal differences in that? Not much nowadays – the gap between top and bottom in England has never been wider.

If Napoli fail to win tonight, it’ll mean all of the top 7 in Italy dropped points this week. I doubt that happens too often anywhere in the world.

But it’s good to see Atalanta, Juve and the 2 Milans really struggle, as it makes the whole thing far more exciting.

  2. As soon as Inter crash out of the CL, which will be soon, they’re gonna win most of their remaining Serie A matches without much trouble. Maybe Juventus can win or draw against them, but it will take an outstanding run from either Milan or Napoli to win the title instead of them.

Injuries, as always, play a big role as we saw how Inter was affected by just two key absentees. They will rarely get injured though unlike Milan and Napoli players.

  3. Great to see the race for the title as well as CL places going on. Id say its still Inter‘s title to lose but with so many games to be played, CL and Coppa battles as well playing into this, anything can happen.
