Both Fabian Ruiz and Kalidou Koulibaly seem unlikely to sign a contract extension with Napoli, but only the Spaniard will be frozen out of the club if he remains beyond the summer.

Both players see their contracts expire in June 2023 and have rejected offers from the club. Koulibaly is chased by the best clubs in Europe and confirmed last week that he doesn’t know where he’ll play next season.

Tension between Fabian, Napoli and Man City, what’s going on?

According to reports in Spain, Manchester City want to sign Fabian, but Pep Guardiola’s directors don’t want to negotiate with Napoli.

The Spaniard could be frozen out of the club if he fails to sign a contract extension and remains at the club beyond the summer. That’s the same treatment that Arek Milik got three years ago when he refused to extend his stay at Napoli, leaving the club in January 2020 without playing a game in the first part of the season.

According to Gazzetta and Sky Sport Italia, Koulibaly won’t face the same punishment if he stays at the club because he has already shown his commitment to the club by signing contract extensions in the past. On the other hand, Fabian joined Napoli in 2018 but has never signed a new deal at the Stadio Maradona.
