Juventus will be without Federico Chiesa for the trip to Spezia, confirms Max Allegri, as his return to full fitness after a serious knee injury remains fraught with difficulties.

It kicks off on Sunday at 17.00 GMT at the Stadio Picco.

Chiesa had played all of Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League play-off draw with FC Nantes in Turin and it took a toll on his muscles.

Coach Allegri noted in his press conference that it was simply muscle fatigue, but that Chiesa would be rested and left at the Continassa training camp to continue working on his fitness.

It is a tricky situation for the Italy international, who was out for almost a year after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in January.

The 25-year-old has managed to make 12 appearances for Juventus in all competition this season, contributing one goal and three assists.

However, he is still not really in a condition to start two games in three days.
