Inter and Barcelona meet at the Nou Camp tomorrow and Football Italia looks at why Alessandro Bastoni has become a symbol of the rivalry between the two sides after last week’s clash at San Siro.

It was one of the tensest games of the season at the Stadio Meazza, with the Nerazzurri who managed a crucial 1-0 win against the Catalans amid referee controversy.

Barcelona dominated possession and were denied what appeared to be an obvious penalty kick for a Denzel Dumfries handball in the game’s final minutes.

Xavi and Barcelona fans were left frustrated. The Catalans’ supporters even insulted the Nerazzurri during their 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday and Simone Inzaghi’s men must expect a warm reception at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

Italy international Alessandro Bastoni will be among the most targeted. The 23-year-old was one of the unlikely protagonists after the final whistle due to his Instagram post, which quickly went viral on social media the day after the game.

It showed the defender dragging Barcelona midfielder Gavi onto the floor and thousands of fans commented on it. It became the symbol of Inter’s resistance to Barcelona’s possession and, ultimately, the emblem of their rivalry.

Some Barcelona fans went way too far and even sent death threats to the ex-Parma defender, as reported on Instagram by Bastoni’s girlfriend Camilla Bresciani last week.

Bastoni has played 11 games across all competitions this season. He joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and has collected three goals in 129 appearances with the Nerazzurri, his childhood club.
