Lorenzo Insigne is likely to join Toronto FC as a free agent and there have been plenty of reactions on social media to comment on the Italy international’s choice.

According to SportMediaset, the 30-year-old has already decided to move to Canada at the end of the season.

His current deal with Napoli expires in June and the Partenopei have not improved their contract extension offer, which is still around €3.5m-a-year, less than Insigne’s current €5m-a-year salary.

On the other hand, Toronto FC have offered him a contract above €9m per season. According to Sky Sport Italia, the offer on the table is €11.5m plus €4.5m add-ons.

Giovinco warns Insigne about Toronto move

Former Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco has warned his compatriot that he will fall off the radar in the MLS, even if a spell in Toronto is something that he would ‘suggest to everyone.’

Social media users have been commenting massively on Insigne’s likely decision to leave Napoli to move to Canada, where he would begin a new chapter of his career. Most Napoli supporters are not impressed by his choice, while those of Toronto FC seem to be beyond excited.

  1. One of the best in game. All haters are jealous and wish they had him. He wore #10 with italy and won the euro nuff said. Not even delpiero was good after euro 2000 and was stripped of #10 and benched. All overpaid for oshimen who is worthless and it’s a $$$ game.

  2. Message to Insigne, take the money and move to Toronto. The city has a large Italian community that loves the game and are excited to see you play. The city and the team show great respect to their players. I hope you Giovanco get to play together. That will be exciting soccer.
