Georginio Wijnaldum has been sidelined since August after fracturing his tibia but it won’t be long now until he returns to action for Roma.

The 32-year-old Dutch midfielder joined the Giallorossi from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer on a loan deal with an €8m buy option attached. Hopes were high for Wijnaldum, who had struggled to show his best in the French capital, but misfortune struck when he suffered a fractured tibia during a training session in late August.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Wijnaldum’s recovery is progressing well and Roma hope to have him available for their first game of 2023 against Bologna on January 4. He’s unlikely to start but could come off the bench, giving him his first taste of action in almost five months.

The return of Wijnaldum will give Jose Mourinho’s squad an important boost in the second half of the season. The team are hungry for a top four finish but are facing tough competition from Lazio, Inter and Atalanta.
