Genoa have confirmed that they will attempt to sign a new centre-forward during the January transfer window.

The Rossoblu tried and failed to net Alberto Gilardino in the summer from Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”4″>Fiorentina and eventually ended up with Brescia’s Andrea Caracciolo – who has since struggled.

“It was yet again clear against Inter that we are missing a striker,” President Enrico Preziosi said after the 1-0 loss on Tuesday.

“Whether that man is Gilardino, Roma’s Marco Borriello or Diego Milito of Inter, we need a player who can hold up the ball and score a good number of goals.

“In January we will make moves to bring in a player with those types of characteristics.”

It’s unclear whether Gilardino would leave his current club in the New Year, while Milito has committed his future to Inter.

However, Borriello may be available for transfer given that the Italian international, who has a Genoa past, doesn’t feature in the plans of boss Luis Enrique in the capital.
