Nicolò Zaniolo and Tammy Abraham reacted on social media to Roma‘s disallowed goal against Genoa.

The Giallorossi were forced to a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico but saw a potential late winner disallowed after a VAR check.

Zaniolo cut inside from the right and drilled left-footed into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. He celebrated wildly after a week of transfer speculation, taking off his shirt under the Curva Sud. However, VAR called the referee over to view an Abraham challenge on Johan Vasquez in the build-up and decided it was a foul, so disallowed the goal.

Mourinho was not impressed by the referee’s choice and could not hide his disappointment during his post-match interview with DAZN.

“If the referee made the right decision, then our sport that many years ago became the sport that people love, then this has changed. This is a different sport. A different sport,” he said.

“If that is a foul, then this is no longer football, we have to call it something else. We need a different name, because it’s a different sport.

“If the referee made a mistake and disallowed the goal, he will be the first to be upset at getting it wrong, while for Roma it is déjà vu, as this has already happened many times to us this season.”

Zaniolo was sent off for dissent and, after the final whistle, sent a message to Roma fans through his official Instagram account.

“They can cancel everything, but this celebration will always remain in my mind,” said the 22-year-old posting the pic of his celebration under the Curva Sud.
