The doctor of the Orthopaedics Operating Unit of the Humanitas clinic in Milan, has confirmed that he has coronavirus and claimed the 'perceived reality' of the illness is far from the truth.

“I’m better. I left the hospital, I’m at home,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I’m in isolation, with a mask and all the possible precautions for those who live with me.

“I still can’t say that I have defeated COVID-19. After the 14-day quarantine, I will take two more tests to see if I have healed.

“On March 27, I was hospitalised, an experience I don’t wish for anyone. There’s a great distance between the true and the perceived reality in this terrible story.

“And this goes for all the different components, including sports. The risk is that we tend to underestimate the emergency we are still facing.”

The latest news suggests Serie A teams resume training on May 4, but Volpi has claimed it’s too early to decide and has warned the footballing system.

“This is an emergency that can’t lead to reasoning in the long run, but not even in the medium term. We can’t set a date now and we must think about it in narrow terms.

“In the case of May 4, for example, it will be only be possible to evaluate with certainty at the end of April, to see if the recovery is really possible.

“We are dealing with health, the risks are enormous, people’s lives are at stake here. And in the case of a team that must play, there are 60 or 70 families to protect. We can guide science, nothing else.”
