Voeller is now sporting director at Leverkusen, but spoke of his fondness for the club he was at between 1987 and 1992.

"Roma never changes, it was the same in 1987, almost thirty years ago – they live with the great heart of the fans,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I’ve been in football for quite a few years and have seen everything but that night was a crazy game, a show for the fans.

“The team that scores last is the happiest, if it had finished 2-2 from 2-0 for us, Roma would’ve been happier.

“But they showed they know how to play well, to be the best in Italy and to have every chance of winning the league.

“It isn’t a given that there will be more caution, the dynamics are not calculable, it could finish 0-0 or 1-0 or 0-1, four days later we had the same match against Stuttgart but won 4-3.

“If we don’t lose at the Olimpico we will have a small advantage for qualifying, but it will be a tough match

"I always feel good here. My wife Sabrina is now happy to live in Dusseldorf and speaks German, but we have relatives in Italy.

“I come here less now, but when I come back it's always nice. I envy you because you don’t have Bayern Munich. And Roma can win the Scudetto.”
