The Italian international midfielder, who is only contracted to the club until June 2012, picked up a thigh muscle problem in training on Thursday.
Montolivo underwent tests in Florence this morning which suggested that he would be sidelined for the next seven to 10 days.
He will therefore miss Saturday’s San Siro clash and is also a major doubt for the Week 16 game against Atalanta – the club he grew up in.
