Former Inter striker Christian Vieri says Mauro Icardi “should play more with the team” but praises Paulo Dybala.

The forward played for most of Serie A’s leading lights during a nomadic career, representing Milan, Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina as well as the Nerazzurri.

“Icardi doesn’t move much, he’s absent,” Vieri told Corriere della Sera.

“He should play more with the team and not immediately go deep. At the same time, his teammates must learn to supply him quickly, otherwise he’s just spinning his wheels.

“He’s not poor though, it’s not by chance that he scored 20 goals in Serie A [22 last season].

“Give him time, and let’s not forget that for many years before Mancio [Roberto Mancini] Inter could only dream about fighting for the Scudetto.

“In terms of the Scudetto, Juventus have returned to being great and are the favourites. But they can always fail to win, and because of that Inter and Napoli have to stay on in until the end.”

Vieri also offered his opinion on some other strikers in Serie A.

“Gonzalo Higuain? We’re not alike, aside from the tendency to gain weight. He’s the best in our League, and one of the three strongest in the world along with [Luis] Suarez and [Robert] Lewandowski.

“[Paulo] Dybala is a terrific striker, he’s immediately entered into the Juventus mindset.

“Edin Dzeko? It’s too easy to blame him, he needs to be supplied with crosses. [Luciano] Spalletti will put things right.”
