Roma talent Nicola Zalewski was fortunate to avoid injury after an astonishing stamp on his chest and neck from Ludogorets player Olivier Verdon.

The incident occurred in the final minute of Roma’s 3-1 Europa League victory at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

The referee was called back by VAR officials for the on-field review and decided Verdon had stamped on Zalewski purposefully, or at least without due diligence for the safety of an opponent, giving him a straight red card.

Verdon is not exactly new to controversy, as he spent time in prison for domestic violence and attempted murder.
