There is no better way to celebrate Phillipe Mexes’ turning 41 today than by watching his stunning bicycle kick against Anderlecht in the Champions League 11-and-a-half years ago.

The centre-back, who was 30 at the time, is perhaps best known for unleashing the mesmerising acrobatic strike at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

As a lofted pass from Ricardo Montolivo floated its way towards the corner of the penalty area, Mexes took the ball on his chest before pulling off an unbelievable bicycle kick, which looped over everybody and ended up in the far corner of the Anderlecht net.

Mexes’ strike was Milan’s second of the night and sent them on their way to a 3-1 victory on the night, which ended up being crucial in their qualification for the Champions League Round of 16.
