Future Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana will have to bear some of the responsibility for Ajax’s Champions League exit with his error against Benfica.
The shot-stopper has already signed the contract with Inter and undergone a medical, as his current deal with the Dutch giants expires on June 30.
He was only given the nod this evening because all the other goalkeepers were out injured.
Onana proved if nothing else that he is very rusty after a difficult campaign, as he flapped at a free kick, allowing Darwin Nunez to score the decisive goal for Benfica.
Ajax crashed out 2-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16, while Atletico Madrid also won 1-0 away to Manchester United.
Benfica break the deadlock in Amsterdam! 😤
Onana comes out to try and catch Grimaldo’s free-kick, but it’s Darwin Nunez who pounces first and powers home a header.
