Gianluca Vialli is ‘very touched and proud’ to be inducted into Italy’s Hall of Fame today and says ‘the door is always open to returning to football.’

The former Sampdoria and Juventus striker is one of several Italian football figures joining the list of iconic calcio stars in Florence today.

Vialli is being inducted in the ‘Italian player’ category, while other new additions include Inter’s Roberto Mancini as ‘Italian Coach’ and Ronaldo as ‘foreign player.’

“I’m very touched, I thank the FIGC and the jury, within which there are many people who I grew up with,” Vialli said to Tuttomercatoweb.

“Thanks also to my family, who gave me the possibility to do what I’ve done. And obviously Cremonese, Sampdoria, Juventus, Chelsea and the national team.

“Finally, my teammates as without them it wouldn’t have been possible to achieve the goals I reached. This award makes me proud of what I’ve done.

“Do I miss the adrenaline of football? I’m totally available… Now I have a wonderful job, they pay me to watch games, but the door is always open to returning to football.”
