Continually linked with Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti is ‘nobody's bargaining chip’, according to his agent.

The 22-year-old has long been a target for the Old Lady, and recent rumours of his inclusion in an exchange alongside teammate Edison Cavani for Paul Pogba has now drawn a response.

“Everybody's saying good things about Marco,” said his agent Donato Di Campli to Tele Radio Stereo 92.7, as reported by Calciomercato.it.

“I'd like to make it clear that, with all due respect to Pogba, Marco is nobody's bargaining chip.

“If one day somebody decides to knock on PSG’s door to discuss Verratti, they'll have to deal with the club directly for the player, rather than hoping to slip him in as part of a parallel transaction.

“As for the national team, Marco does not expect a starter’s shirt to be reserved for him.

“He knows he has to earn his spot the way he always does, by working hard. After that, the decisions belong to the Coach.”

Finally, Di Campli had some comments about Italian football more generally.

“Thinking that these last few days in which the transfer window is open could see other high-level players coming into Italy is utopian.

“The financial system must be reconsidered for this impoverished football scene.

“So far some interesting players have joined them but in the best of cases they were unhappy with their own clubs.”
