Marco Verratti doesn’t believe he’ll ever win the Ballon d’Or, and explains why he gets so many bookings.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has spoken to France Football, and also discussed the possibility of moving to Serie A.

“I don’t think I’ll win the Ballon d’Or,” Verratti admitted.

“There are people stronger than me. To be honest I prefer to win things as a team, then you can celebrate together. If you win the Ballon d’Or maybe you have a party yourself afterward!”

The Italian international has picked up seven bookings in 22 Ligue 1 games this season, with Coach Laurent Blanc saying that’s too many but Verratti blames a cultural difference.

“In Italy you can speak to the referees to ask for explanations, but here in France they say that you’re screaming at them.

“I understand, and I don’t speak to them anymore. I’ve had some yellows, but I consider them necessary to save the team from certain situations.

“I have no problem with the Coach, I prefer people who tell you what you do wrong.”

Finally, the midfielder discussed playing in Serie A, and warns it won’t happen any time soon.

“I feel good here, and I’d like to stay here for a long time,” Verratti insisted.

“I’ll go when the directors let me know that I’m surplus to requirements. I’ve always said that I’ll play in Serie A one day, but it won’t be for a long time.”
