Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has compared Claudio Lotito to fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

The Lazio President is at the centre of a row after being recorded saying he hopes Carpi and Frosinone don’t win promotion to Serie A, as it would affect television rights.

Lotito also intimated that he has more power than the heads of the Lega Serie A and Serie B, and the Rosanero patron thinks he has an inflated sense of self.

“It was shameful to record a phonecall, like the Soviet Union,” Zamparini said of the incident, in an interview with Radio 24.

“However, he was talking rubbish. Carpi have the right to play in Serie A.

“The problem is that the Lazio President suffers from the delusion of omnipotence, like Mussolini or [former Socialist Party leader Bettino] Craxi.

“Unfortunately there’s a power struggle going on between Juve and Lotito.

“Marotta? He says certain things that will suit them [Juve] influenced by his bosses.

“As for Lotito, I repeat, he was talking rubbish, he thinks he’s omnipotent.

“Maybe he doesn’t know that power bothers people, who will then want to fight you, he wants to get involved in politics too.”
