Jordan Veretout agrees with José Mourinho and urges Roma to complete new signings to make the team stronger.

The Special One has often complained about Roma’s depth this season and after Sunday’s defeat against Venezia, he questioned the club’s transfer strategies.

This, despite Roma being the highest spender in Serie A over the summer.

Roma won six of the opening seven games of the season, but have only collected one victory in the last five Serie A games.

“We’ve had a drop after a good start, but the season is still long. The season’s target hasn’t changed, a Champions League spot is only three points away,” Veretout told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Mourinho is a winner, suitable for a big project like the one of Friedkins’ Roma. He gives you the motivation to always give the 200% and help the team. It’s up to us to find the same spirit we had at the beginning of the season,” the France international continued.

“There’s a lot of passion in Rome. If you win you are the best, if you lose it’s a big drama. But fans are our strength, they proved it to us in Venice, now we must repay them.”

The former Fiorentina midfielder insists the group has remained united despite their 6-1 loss against Bodo/Glimt two weeks ago, but claims Roma need new signings.

“This is an ambitious project that can’t be built from one day to another. It’s normal that it takes time and new signings to keep improving,” he said.

Veretout has been included in the France squad to replace the injured Paul Pogba.

The 28-year-old made his senior France debut this past September and has four caps to his name.

He has scored four goals and delivered three assists in 16 games at a club level this season and his contract with Roma expires in June 2024.

  1. You guys always say that Roma spent the most but don’t explain that the money was used,to patch positions where players left Dezko, as to why they bought Abraham buying Vina, because of the Spina injury, so really the team wasn’t improved the money was used as a necessity to fill the void for the missing players!! But you love to spin it like they had all this money and upgraded the squad!! Please tell me where where this is evident?

  2. I think Mike Cab.is right . Anyway Abraham has lost his touch. Mkhi. Is awful Zaniolo has become selfish not always passes the ball to his teammates although they are in a better position to score. Etc. Etc. Etc.

  3. Jordan Veretout always lost the ball and pass the ball very stupidly. That he missed the penalty kick at Juv match made Roma fan so sad.

  4. @Mike cabral
In essence, Roma only improved GK and backup striker. But media has to create drama around Roma, add to is that Mou is the coach this year and it is open season for hunting whose and which statement can be twisted into ridiculous drama. The most hated club by journalists in Italy is led by the most hated coach by journalists in the world.

  5. Lupo,
Re Mkhi being “awful”, we have seen again and again good players wilt when “managed” by Mourinho. I don’t understand whose brilliant idea was to sign intemperate Mourinho.
