Simone Verdi reveals Bologna Coach Roberto Donadoni told him he was “stupid not to go” to Napoli in January.

The Partenopei had agreed a deal for the forward in the winter transfer window, but he decided to stay with the Rossoblu before completing a deal this summer.

“I’ll be tied to the Bologna fans forever, I had a journey to finish,” Verdi told Corriere della Sera.

“Donadoni told me: ‘you’re stupid not to go there’. But I decided along with my fiancée to postpone it.

“I’m here and that’s all that counts, I was in constant contact with sporting director [Cristiano] Giuntoli from January to June.”

Verdi was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo, who has signed for Juventus in a €113m deal.

“He’s one of the strongest phenomena in the world. I played against him in La Liga, so I know that. His arrival in Italy shifts the balance, even if it’s not easy to change the league.

“Ronaldo is joining a team that was already very strong, but you never win alone.”
