Speaking in the fourth and final part of a Press conference for Italy’s upcoming games against Germany and Liechtenstein, Ventura was asked for his opinion on Serie A in terms of its quality and competitiveness, plus which of its teams had caught his eye.

“The League? It’s not been at its best in recent years,” he confessed.

“There hasn’t been a team of great consistency apart from Juve. Now there’s Roma, but they conceded three goals against Torino.

“They’re a team that are fighting, but they have work to do. It’s an interesting League, but as a show, it’s not been memorable.

“Juve win first and foremost and everything else comes after. Roma are playing well, but they created chances against Empoli and didn’t win.

“Juve create less chances but still win. Milan went to Genoa and conceded three goals, so they’ll find it difficult to be competitive for the Scudetto.

“Criticism of Juve’s performances? Allegri does well to smile. He has to see if what Juve are doing in Italy will be enough in Europe, but that’s another matter.

“Surprises of the season? Firstly Atalanta, then Torino, who have the second-best attack in the League.

“Then there’s Lazio, who are very strong in my opinion. Bad surprises are Inter and Sassuolo, both of whom are paying for injuries and the Europa League.

“I hope they both go through [in the EL], but they must also think about the League.”
