The Nerazzurri welcome the English side to San Siro tomorrow for their first Champions League game since 2011-12, and the Uruguayan gave his thoughts in the pre-match Press conference.

“In my opinion it’s not a question of approach,” Vecino insisted.

“The team has done well, particularly in the first half against Torino, but then there are moments where we don’t know how to suffer as a team.

“We need to make sure all 11 are fighting for 90 minutes, if we’re solid as a group we can go beyond our means.

“English teams are very strong, we need to occupy space well to try and stop counter-attacks, they’re all very good one-on-one.

“Anyone who plays in the Champions League wants evenings like this one, we’re a good team and we can compete, it depends on us and what we do on the pitch.”

Some have suggested a win here could really kick start the Beneamata’s season.

“It’s not decisive, but it’ll be very important because of this period we’re in. It could give us a lot of confidence in the search for consistency and results, as well as for the Champions League where it’s really important to score points.

“We have a mix of youngsters and experienced players, even those who haven’t played in the Champions League have been involved in other big competitions.

“It all depends on us and our desire to get a result.”

Milan Skriniar named Harry Kane as Spurs’ danger man, but Vecino picked out another threat.

“In my opinion [Christian] Eriksen, a player who knows how to circulate the ball well, could be decisive.”
