Leonel Vangioni believes Milan will 'aim for the podium' next season and reveals his specialty are 'assists, not goals'.

The left-back will begin his adventure with the Rossoneri this summer after joining them from River Plate, and he believes he is ready to be a starter.

“Of course it won't be down to me, but I feel absolutely ready,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I had many good seasons in Argentina and I won six titles, including the Argentinian league, the South American Cup and the Libertadores.

“I'm at the right age and I felt excited about having a new adventure in Europe, if possible in a club as great as this one.

“I want some good training sessions before the championship so I can do well from the very first games. I want to be an important player who can offer something to the team. I'm here to play, that's my objective.”

Vangioni was then asked whether it bothered him that Milan would not be playing in any of the European cups.

“I already made a similar sacrifice. When I joined River Plate, they'd just come back from relegation, and yet I won right away.

“Obviously there's a sense of disappointment when such a big club struggles, but we must look to the future with faith, and avoid looking back.

“A new season is about to begin, that's all I'm thinking of. A team like Milan will return to centre-stage and will be fighting for the podium as early as next season.

“I'm no good-luck charm. If they make it back to the top, that's because they are a great team.

“Me, I'd like to make many assists. Goals are not my specialty, but serving my teammates, that's where I shine. I'd like to make more than I've done in Argentina over these years.

“I already know everyone here as the Italian championship is still very popular at home, but I haven't met them in person yet.

“Milan should also help me regain the Argentinian national team, that's one of my objectives.

“The city is beautiful and chilled, I know I won't have any trouble fitting in.”
