After reports Clarence Seedorf would replace Max Allegri on the Milan bench, former player Mark Van Bommel is now the hot favourite.

Allegri is thought to be reaching the end of his Rossoneri career following another fall-out with President Silvio Berlusconi.

The patron has made no secret of the fact he’d like to bring in someone who has played for the club in the past.

While newspapers suggested at the weekend that Seedorf would be the favourite, now SportMediaset claim Van Bommel is the latest candidate.

Like Seedorf, Van Bommel is still playing and wears the captain’s armband at PSV Eindhoven.

It is alleged Milan want a former player with little experience to act as caretaker Coach before Cesare Prandelli can become available.

The Italy boss is locked down until after the 2014 World Cup.
