“It’s pleasing to be likened to that team as I consider [then Verona Coach] Osvaldo Bagnoli a teacher,” the former Vicenza tactician noted.
“However, I don’t think we will be able to mirror what he achieved with that Gialloblu side from that time.
“Today the budget of a club is what makes the difference. Clubs who have invested the most in their squad will eventually emerge in the table.”
Udinese finished fourth last term, but they were expected to struggle this time around after the summer sales of Alexis Sanchez, Gokhan Inler and Cristian Zapata.
“Doing better than we did last year having sold three important players has pretty much surprised everybody, including me,” he added.
“However, the team knows each other better this season and the squad knows what it wants.”
Udinese are joint top of the standings with Juventus after the latter drew 1-1 at Roma on Monday evening.
The two Bianconeri are two points clear of Milan and Lazio in the table.
