There’s a nine-point gap at the top of the table, but the Giallorossi are feeling confident after their 2-1 Europa League win at Feyenoord on Thursday.

“On Monday we face Juve, a game we’ve been waiting for a long time,” wrote Totti in the Corriere dello Sport.

“Until a few days ago it seemed as if there was no hope for us in this match. Instead we’re convinced that we can challenge and give meaning to this title race, to re-open a matter that had seemed closed.

“These last few weeks have not been easy and we were upset to have disappointed our fans, but I am confident. I think the worst is behind us.

“We have a very united squad and Roma are ready to do their bit.”

The 2-1 success in Rotterdam was their first European win since the opening Champions League round against CSKA Moscow in September.

“Finally the victory we wanted has arrived, the one we prepared for by considering every last detail, because we knew how important it was for us and our fans to reach the next stage.

“We didn’t want to go out of Europe, because we could still go all the way in this competition.”

Roma picked Fiorentina in the Last 16, an Italian Derby that was somewhat inevitable considering there were five Serie A sides in the draw.

“This will be an opportunity to see old friends, who of course gave us a big disappointment by knocking us out of the Coppa Italia a few weeks ago. So this time we’ll try to make them unhappy.

“I saw so many happy faces on the way back from Holland, starting from our Coach. Now we must continue along this path and not let up even a centimetre.”
