Francesco Totti confirmed he has not yet made a decision on his future, which could be outside Italy, but was “incredulous” when Gigi Buffon returned to Juventus.

The Giallorossi icon is at a loose end after walking away from his job as a director at Roma, although he confirms Sampdoria are an option.

“For now, I see myself on the beach,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia. “I don’t know what I’ll do next, I am evaluating. There have been many proposals and I’ll choose the best one, even whether it’s in Italy or Europe. However, I could even decide to just take time off. It's all up in the air right now.

“The role isn’t as important for me as the chance to work well with the right mentality and motivation. I thought long and hard before deciding to leave Roma. I am not following any of their progress right now, but I hope they are doing a good job. I haven’t heard from anyone at the club.”

Has Totti heard from Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero?

“Ferrero calls me every day… He even has a spot on the beach near mine.”

Curiously, while Totti leaves Roma, Buffon sealed his return to Juventus after a year at PSG.

“I never imagined making this decision and I didn’t think Gigi would come back to Turin either. I spoke to Buffon two days ago and I was incredulous when he told me.”

New Roma director of sport Gianluca Petrachi confirmed yesterday that he wants Gonzalo Higuain, but Totti has a different prediction.

“I think Inter and Juve could exchange Higuain with Mauro Icardi.”
