Totti last night raised some serious question marks about his career with his hometown outfit after admitting that he could consider an exit.
However, the captain’s outburst reportedly came after he was verbally abused by some Roma fans in a capital street.
“I like it when a player tells everyone how he feels,” Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s a spontaneous kind of guy, he was hurt but the criticism will spur him on. I’m almost pleased…
“Totti will never leave Roma, he is Roma, and we want him to stay with us for life. Once he ends his playing career then he will take up a director’s role with us.”
After insisting that one Rome-born hero would remain, the former Palermo official was asked about another given that De Rossi’s contract expires in June 2012.
“We’re working on it,” Sabatini added. “We want to construct this new contract, but we primarily want to gift De Rossi an important future.
“We’ll do all that we can to keep him.”
One player who looks likely to leave is under-used Italian international Borriello, a forward who doesn’t feature in the plans of boss Luis Enrique.
“We won’t give him away, but his sale is very probable,” Sabatini continued. “If the right opportunity presents itself then we’ll do a deal.
“A move to Paris Saint-Germain? They’ve already spent enough, but a move abroad is plausible. We’ve received some offers from important clubs from north-west Europe. But not from PSG.”
