Francesco Totti says even as he is ‘getting old’, he will continue to play so long as he enjoys it, whilst he reveals what he’d sacrifice for the Scudetto.

The 37-year-old is entering into a 23rd season with Roma and has reflected on this with Roma Radio.

“Unfortunately I am getting old, but football has been and is everything, it is my passion and my fun,” Totti has commented.

“But now it is different, the game has changed, it is more physical and less technical. Before was when I enjoyed it the most.

“But the desire is always there, otherwise I would not be here. I really want to play and have fun, and when the passion is no longer there, I will be the first to move aside.

“What has changed in football in 23 years? In 23 years at Roma, many things have changed – Presidents, Coaches, players.

“I have seen everything. I could write a book, maybe I will do.”

The No 10 was asked for a word on Coach Rudi Garcia, who turned around the team’s fortunes last summer.

“He is a good person, he takes everything into consideration. He wants to do well and we hope to do so together.

“He did well to turn around a difficult situation, we were so poor for two years. He was able to immediately understand the environment and field a team that did well.”

Hope at Roma is resting on a number of young players too.

“And they are good, but we all know that at that age they have to keep their feet on the ground.

“Football has changed, as I have said, and youngster are not the same as they once were. Previously they were given more attention, now they are given more space.”

Totti, who has one Scudetto to his name, was asked of hopes for the coming season.

“I have positive hopes, we will try to repeat a season like the previous one. It is not easy, but we will try to attain something nice and positive.”

The suggestion is a push for the title, and Totti was asked what he would sacrifice to achieve that goal.

“I would be willing to do without ice cream for a year…”
