Lazio are reportedly prepared to make Antonio Candreva their joint best paid player and on a five-year contract.

The Aquile bought out the remaining 50 per cent of his registration earlier this summer from Udinese, amid speculation of interest from other clubs.

However, in holding firm on the Italy international, the club have been seen as keen to instead hand the winger an improved contract.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reiterate this position today, asserting that in the coming days talks over a new deal may finally begin.

It is understood that Lazio are prepared to boost Candreva’s wages from a current €900,000 net level up to €2m, to put him level with the squad’s current high earner, Miroslav Klose.

The capital outfit’s intentions also stretch to extending the 27-year-old’s deal through to June 2019.
