Dino Zoff pays respect to Francesco Totti, but suggests that the Roma veteran could have achieved more for club and country at an international level.

The 38-year-old has today been honoured at the Gazzetta dello Sport awards with the Giacinto Facchetti award, in recognition of his contribution to the game.

Whilst his former Italy Coach says there is no doubt over his ability, he has questioned the No 10’s impact at the highest level.

“With Francesco Totti there are a few regrets, because for his potential he could have done more in the international arena,” Zoff offered to news agency Adnkronos.

“We are talking about a great player, scorer of more than 230 goals in Serie A, but both in the European competitions with Roma and in the national team, he could have done more.

“With us he was at his finest at the European Championships in 2000, which was without doubt his best work in an Azzurri shirt.

“It is a shame about his injury before the 2006 World Cup, which did not allow him to be able to deliver his best.”
