The No 10’s present deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but an extension until 2016 has been drawn up.

Totti, who will be 37 later this month, will see his present €4.5m a season salary reduced to €3.2m a campaign.

“There are just the fine points remaining to sort out,” added Roma director general Mauro Baldissoni. “He will soon sign the contract. There are no problems.”

Capital born Totti has spent his entire career with the Giallorossi after graduating through their youth system.

This term is his 22nd Serie A campaign with the Stadio Olimpico outfit.
