Napoli tried and failed to sign Lazio and Brazil ace Hernanes during the transfer window, the capital club have revealed.

“There was an offer from Napoli this summer for Hernanes,” Lazio President Claudio Lotito commented. “However, the bid was not compatible with the value of the player.

“I explained to Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis that the player was not for sale and I’m not sure whether Hernanes had a desire to go to Naples anyway.”

The midfielder, now 28, has been linked with the likes of Inter and Paris Saint-Germain over the last few years.

The South American, 31 goals in 103 Serie A games, joined the capital club in 2010 from Sao Paulo for a fee in the region of €11m.
