Fernando Torres’ poor start to his Milan career can in part be attributed to a recurring ankle problem, reports suggest.

The Spanish striker has made seven appearances since joining the Rossoneri on a two-year loan from Chelsea, but has only scored one goal.

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the problem may not be entirely down to Torres.

The Milan-based sports daily insists that the former World Cup winner is yet to fully recover from an ankle injury sustained before the Rossoneri’s trip to Parma in Week 2. Torres jumped to control a pass in training, but landed on the foot of Adil Rami and sustained an injury.

Although Torres has gone on to play for Filippo Inzaghi’s side, the newspaper reports that the former Liverpool striker is forced to take painkilling injections before every match to deal with the injury, as well as putting ice on his ankle when the game is over.

The Gazzetta reports that while the staff at MilanLab were impressed with Torres’ test results when he joined the club, the striker will not be able to perform for more than 25 minutes unless the ankle injury is sorted out.
