Italian reports insist Torino are not yet out of the running for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, despite Atletico Madrid competition.

ESPN Uruguay claimed earlier today that Atletico Madrid had won the race for the player, beating Torino, Fiorentina and Milan.

However, Sportitalia and Torino transfer specialist Matteo Pedrosi both maintain this evening that the Granata are still in the hunt.

Torreira played his best football under coach Marco Giampaolo at Sampdoria and is eager for a reunion.

He also spent much of his career in Serie A, previously playing for Pescara.

It’s reported Torino directors are currently in London trying to thrash out a deal with Arsenal.

Once that has been done, perhaps on loan with obligation to buy, then agreeing personal terms with Torreira should be relatively simple.
