Torino are edging closer to a deal for Belgium international defender Jason Denayer, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The centre-back is currently a free agent after his contract with Olympique Lyonnais was allowed to expire on June 30.

Other clubs are interested, including Serie A newcomers Monza, but Torino have emerged as the favourites.

Transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio maintains that negotiations are progressing well and Denayer could put pen to paper with Toro after a medical early next week.

He will be the replacement for Gleison Bremer, who was sold to Juventus for €50m including add-ons.

Denayer just turned 27 and previously played for Manchester City, Celtic, Galatasaray, Sunderland and Olympique Lyonnais.

He amassed 35 senior caps for Belgium, also scoring one goal.

Injuries proved a problem last season, ruling Denayer out for over two months with a dislocated ankle from December 2021 to February 2022.

Partly due to this, he made only 20 competitive appearances for Lyon in 2021-22, nonetheless contributing three goals and an assist.
