Fikayo Tomori ‘learned a totally different way of seeing the game’ at Milan and brings that to the England squad, while Mason Mount found the 0-0 draw with Italy ‘frustrating.’
Rossoneri centre-back Tomori was given his first start in the England jersey at Molineux in this Nations League stalemate and had to make a crucial tackle to stop Willy Gnonto going clear.
“It was a good game, unfortunately we didn’t get a goal,” Tomori told RAI Sport in Italian.
“I learned a totally different way of seeing the game, it’s different in England and something I can take with me for the team, for myself.”
Goals have been a problem for Italy, but perhaps even more so the Three Lions, who have now failed to score a goal from open play in over four hours of football.
“It is frustrating, we want to win, create chances and score goals. I probably should have done better with my chances, we had a few other chances and it is something we have to look at. We are keeping clean sheets so it is something that is a positive but we have to work at it,” Mount told Channel 4.
“We have had chances today and probably should have scored, sometimes you go through little periods where it is difficult. We have to keep working hard in training, look where we can improve. We have the players to do that, the talent and quality, just work at it.”
Mount had the best chance of the game, his strike thumping the crossbar in the first half.
“I was in a 10 role so gave me freedom to roam and find spaces, linking the midfield to the attacking boys. I found myself in spaces to shoot but did not to do well enough from my shot but it was too easy for the keeper. It is a difficult one to take because I feel we could have come away with more.
“We want to win every game, even if it is a friendly. We have looked at the last two games, felt confident in what we do but it is a tough one.”
