According to Sky Sport Italia, Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna for €20m plus €3m add-ons.

The Japan international has been followed by the Gunners for the whole summer. Spurs had also made a formal bid to sign him before securing Cristian Romero’s services from Atalanta.

La Gazzetta dello Sport had also mentioned West Ham as a possible destination for the Japanese defender, but Arsenal met his agent this morning and managed to finalise a deal to sign him.

Tomiyasu joined Bologna from VV Sint-Truiden in a €7m deal in 2019.

He made his senior Japan debut in 2018 and has 23 international caps to his name. He played 64 games with Bologna, 61 in Serie A. He also scored three goals with the Felsinei.

Why Tomiyasu could be the next Serie A defender to move to North London

Tomiyasu was targeting a move to the Premier League and enjoyed some extra holidays at the beginning of the Serie A campaign after participating in the Olympic games with the Japan U23 squad.

He played nine minutes in Bologna’s 0-0 draw against Atalanta on Saturday. It was his last game in a Bologna shirt.
