Jose Mourinho has been forced to revamp the squad this evening, as between injuries, suspension and a COVID-19 outbreak, he is missing eight players.

It was hoped that Zaniolo might be on the bench, but he is in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico instead.

“Zaniolo had a knock to the quadricep, he is not here today, but I think he will be available for the next match,” Tiago Pinto told DAZN.

It is not clear whether Roma are playing with three at the back, which would mirror Verona’s system, or going for four with Matias Vina as a left-back.

“This has been a week outside of the norm and the squad felt the consequences too. Rather than talk about the way Roma are set out, I’d prefer to focus on how motivated everyone is to turn this setback into an opportunity.”

The Giallorossi have seven fewer points in the Serie A table than at this stage last season, but are still in the running for European qualification.

“We must play every game as if it’s a final and realise the table will always be a reflection of what we do on the field. So while the other teams not winning might be a bonus, we still have to focus on ourselves and what we can do.”
