Juventus are gearing up for negotiations with Angel Di Maria as they look to extend his stay in Turin and three key elements will be considered.

The 35-year-old Argentinian winger’s debut season with the Bianconeri started slowly and fans began to grow unhappy with the former Paris Saint-Germain winger in the run up to the World Cup, believing he was more focused on that than on day-to-day life in the Piedmont capital.

Since the Christmas break, however, Di Maria has proven himself an important part of Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus squad, scoring three goals and providing three assists across his eight Serie A games in 2023.

La Gazzetta dello Sport details how Juventus are preparing to start contract renewal talks with Di Maria and his entourage, aware that three key elements are involved in the discussions.

The first of these is his family; over the last few months, the Argentinian winger and his family have grown increasingly happy in Turin and are enjoying life in the Piedmont capital, an important factor in the player’s decision. He famously had trouble settling with Manchester United, in part due to his wife’s unhappiness in the North West of England.

The second factor is the 35-year-old’s goals with the Argentina national team. He wants to be a part of the squad for the 2024 Copa America and knows that staying at a top European club gives him the best chance of making the cut, making a delayed return to Rosario Central likely.

The final element is one Juventus cannot control: European competition. The 15-point deduction handed to the club in January puts them at risk of missing out on the Champions League and they hope that Di Maria would be willing to stay regardless.
