New Inter owner and President Erick Thohir has spoken of his intentions for the future of the Italian giants.

The Indonesian businessman has completed his acquisition of the San Siro outfit after he bought 70 per cent from Massimo Moratti.

“It's important for us, the new management, to make sure Inter are winning, exciting to watch but also healthy financially, to compete with the other clubs in the world right now,” Thohir stated.

“This is something Mr Moratti, the new management and myself would like to underline.

“The football industry has changed,” he added. “A lot of new regulations are coming in, for example, FIFA Financial Fair Play will be established soon.

“There will only be 10 recognisable clubs in the world game in a decade because they will be winning and healthy. Inter will be one of those.

“Our aim is to make sure our club will be stronger.

“So the new management, together with Angelomario [son of Massimo Moratti], the board of directors, myself, Handy Soetedjo and Rosan Roeslani, we have to work hard, we have to focus and work together to make this happen.”

On the field of play, Inter are in a stage of redevelopment after Walter Mazzarri was brought in as Coach after the disappointing 2012-13 under Andrea Stramaccioni.

“The fundamentals have been established in last three months, but of course the next two-three years are a challenge for us to make the team sustainable and compete,” he continued.

“That's the reason we visited Coach Mazzarri yesterday and we trust what he's doing. And hopefully we can become consistent and become a winning team again together.

“Like [Inter legend Giacinto] Facchetti said: 'The secret of every triumph lies in your own belief'. Our belief lies in our passion and our passion will pave the way for Inter's future success.

“The role is tough, hard, but I really believe, as I mentioned before, that with hard work we can make Inter what Mr Moratti has done continuously.

“In the last 18 years, what Mr Moratti and his family have done is unbelievable so I think we need to sustain that.”

Thohir brought a smile to the proceedings by saying “chi non salta Rossonero è” – a supporter chant which means those who don’t jump are Rossoneri [Milan] fans.
